In May 2016, a pet-friendly business in downtown Greer, Greer Trading Post, was not allow to host a pet adoption event with a reputable, insured animal rescue organization, Saved by the Heart. The city of Greer denied pets access to the building because a festival was going on in the area. Greer has an ordinance banning pets at public events.
While Saved by the Heart understands the necessity of having policies to protect the public, promoting adoptable pets inside a business does not have the same risks as a citizen owned pet being on a busy street.
Greer Trading Post also has a concern with how this ordinance will effect the progress of the town as more pet-friendly merchants and residents move onto downtown streets.
Saved by the Heart has been hosting successful pet-friendly event in downtown Greer since 2011. We hope to work with the City of Greer to resolve this issue for future events and Help Greer Love Pets! Stay tuned for statements from Greer businesses and residents.
